Despite the high safety requirements, it has been shown that some of them, such as oxybenzone or octinoxate, penetrate the deeper layers of the skin, from where they enter the bloodstream. In addition, the literature describes that they can contribute to endocrine disorders, adversely affect the viability of nerve cells, and cause certain allergic reactions. Because use of photo-protective preparations is of great importance in the prevention of skin cancer, it seems necessary to develop new, effective and safe UV filters. An interesting group of compounds meeting the desired safety profile are, inter alia, xanthone derivatives with a broad photoprotective spectrum (UVA / UVB).
