The developed device recognizes potentially dangerous substances by measuring gamma quanta formed in the tested object during irradiation with neutrons. The currently used methods of detecting hazardous substances in the aquatic environment are mainly based on the use of sonar and magnetometric measurements not allowing for the determination of the type of substance. Thus, they demand additional verification of each potential hazard by a qualified person. This invention allows for a more detailed examination of the suspected object without human intervention. Moreover, it will enable cheap, safe and quick detection of hazardous substances and will contribute to the detailed determination of the place and size of the arsenal sunken in the Baltic Sea. As a result, it will affect more effective planning of the disposal of these chemicals and increase the security of the civilian population and the Navy.
Słowa kluczowe: underwater detection, protection of surface waters, use of neutrons in detection, detection of gamma quanta
